Therefore, as to the eating of food offered to idols, we know that “an idol has no real existence,” and that “there is no God but one.”

1 Corinthians 8:4, ESV

Nothing we eat or drink has power over us. Food or drink sacrificed to idols is just food and drink because idols are nothing more than something carved or created by human hands. We need not trouble our souls about trifles, but focus on the important things that stand ever before us. In our worship of the one true God, we are given the gift of sharing His truth to all who struggle and suffer in the world. How do we best serve Him? In our living and in our proclamation, as we seek to bring His truth to those who are trapped in the endless cycle of sin that enslaves our world. We worry about things that we have no control over and seek after things that will only disappoint. Our Lord calls us all to focus on Him and give all who are caught up in despair the hope and promise that comes through our Lord Jesus Christ, so all may come to know His peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
