You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
Deuteronomy 6:8–9, ESV
God wants His Word accessible to us at all times. For the people of Israel, this was a very visible act that can still be witnessed being done by Orthodox Jews. It was to be a reminder of how important it was not only for His people to follow His law, but also to know His Word. Though we, as followers of Christ, are no longer called to do the physical acts, God desires for us to be in His Word, know His Word, and live into His Word. The power of our witness is in how well we live out the Gospel life, and this happens as God’s Word is written on our hearts and minds. The more we are bound to the Word, the greater bond we have with God’s Word. God wants us to be confident in His promises, and this is what Moses was giving to the people of Israel before they entered the Promised Land, and failed to keep His Word, and because of this, they failed to fully claim His promise. God desires for us to walk confidently in His promise and fully know His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
