For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

Romans 10:13, ESV

Salvation is a gift centered on the Cross as our Lord, Jesus Christ, gave His life and took all of our sin upon Himself. This was not an act based on our action, but was something done once and for all by our Lord. We often like to make it about what we do, but our Lord bases our salvation on one thing: belief. In our crying out to our Lord, we confess our need for His gift and our acceptance of His salvation. It is an act which our Lord hears, and He gives us exactly that which we are calling out for from Him. Our Lord puts no barriers for us to be forgiven; we are the ones who place the barriers for ourselves. How do we do this? We like to think that there is something we must do to earn it and merit our salvation, but biblically we find these words stated three times by three different writers because our Lord’s emphasis is for us to trust in Him and, more importantly, to trust His forgiveness as He leads us into His peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
