For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And intricately woven in the depths of the earth; Your eyes have seen my unshaped substance; And in Your book all of them were written The days that were formed for me, When as yet there was not one of them.
Psalm 139:13–16, LSB
No one is created by accident. Each of us is known by God in the womb. Without the sin of the fallen world there would not be many of the diseases and illnesses we know today and the hardships we face would not be there, but God created us for the moments in which we live. Evil things that occur in our lives, He can turn to good, and He already foreknew all possibilities. God did not create any of us for dishonor and the issues we face we can either turn over to God or try to resolve on our own. Yet it is good to revel in the reality of being created and known by God as all things were being formed in our mother’s womb. As we look at each life forming in a mother’s womb, we can marvel at all the possibilities. At each life lost, we can mourn the potential good that could have come from that life. Each of us fearfully and wonderfully made by our Creator and given gifts and skills to resolve all issues in the world. It’s hard to imagine what it would all look like if we were to turn to God and faithfully follow His will instead of seeking after our own. What great things could we truly accomplish to His glory? As you move through your life today, ponder this thought and let the Lord’s peace fall upon you as you reflect on His creation of you.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
