I will remember the works of the LORD; surely I will remember Your wonders of old. I will meditate also on all Your work and ponder on Your mighty deeds.
Psalm 77:11–12, MEV
When I was a youth, Janet Jackson came out with a song, “What Have You Done for Me Lately.” It epitomized the sentiment common in the world. How quickly do we forget or let go of things done for us by others in the past? It highlights the tendency to approach relationships in a transactional manner. God calls us to remember. Remember all the blessings that He has given us and take a moment to ponder them. As we reflect on blessings, it opens a door in our hearts that can reflect life and our Lord into the world and cause our actions and reactions to be changed. Our Lord desires for us to be tempered in our reactions and content in our lives. To live in the peace and knowledge of our Lord’s consistent love for us and the continuous outpouring of blessings that come upon us. It is meant to give us a sense of satisfaction instead of a gluttonous consumption that will never be sated. As we walk in the knowledge of our Lord’s providence, we are able to better know His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
