But we ought always to give thanks to God for you, brothers beloved by the Lord, because God chose you as the firstfruits to be saved, through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth.

2 Thessalonians 2:13, ESV

We are all drawn away from sin and death. Sanctification isn’t a one-time process but a continued work throughout our faith lives. As the Holy Spirit continues to work within us and chip away all the things that are not of God, He recreates us into a new people. God has done this work throughout history with His chosen people, Israel, but through the Son, Jesus Christ, we have been cleaved into the promises of Israel and are being reworked as His Church, His people. Our Lord continues this journey in each of our lives as we turn more and more into Him and away from the things of this world. He utilizes us in our imperfection and restores us where the world and our sin have wounded us. He leads us away from the pathways that lead to death and into His rich pastures. We are the offerings given to our Lord and offered up as a sacrifice to His glory. Let our lives be a sweet aroma to our Lord, and may His love give us peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
