“Do not fear those who kill the body but are not able to kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”

Matthew 10:28, MEV

What are we to fear? We all know that we can only live one life in this fallen and broken world, but eternity still awaits all of us. What is it that we seek? Riches and fame? To stay young forever? To cheat death? All will fail, but the hope we all can have is in the promise of Jesus Christ, our Savior. The hope and promise of eternity in paradise, with all sin and its consequences removed from us. This is the power of our Lord and His promises to us. If someone threatens our lives because we speak the truth about our God, then let them be angry and pray that they come to know the one, true God. For us, it isn’t about this life, but eternity. Proclaim the glory of Christ to all so they too may join us with our Lord and know Him and live in His promise. It is through Him, and Him alone, that we may all truly come to know peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
