Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD, and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones.
Proverbs 3:7–8, ESV.
Put God in His proper place in your life, and you will find renewal. This is the promise of God. He offered this from the beginning, but we have continually sought our own way. We tend to think we know better. We can find better ways to do things. We seek faster ways to accomplish our tasks. Ever since those words in the garden, “Did God really say…?” we have been doubting God and His Word. Thankfully, our Lord is patient and merciful. He continues to give us grace, but we are aware of the cost. Our bodies break down, our relationships are broken, and the world is full of struggle. If we were to trust in God first, it would be so much simpler. As we turn more and more to God, we will still know struggle, we will still know pain, but we will walk with a greater sense of peace. Many of the issues that burden us will lift and, as our Lord promises, we will know our Lord’s renewal, our bodies will feel refreshed, and we will better understand our Lord’s peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
