Therefore as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, having been firmly rooted and being built up in Him, and having been established in your faith—just as you were instructed—and abounding with thanksgiving.

Colossians 2:6–7, LSB

We don’t have to guess what the Lord desires from us; all we have to do is be in His Word and in regular prayer, and those things are quickly revealed. There isn’t any secret knowledge or guesswork required. If we struggle, we also don’t have to be in fear, but can pray for His help and guidance. Our Lord desires for us to know exactly what His will is and to offer us pathways to be in line with Him, so we don’t have to deal with the consequences of potential sin. Our Lord desires us to work in His faith with a sense of thanksgiving and not be overly burdened in obligation. He seeks to have our will aligned with His, and this can come through study and prayer, and we become more firmly rooted in Him and less within the ways of the world. His desire is not for us to be perfect through our efforts but to become perfected in the faith He has given us and secure in the knowledge of His love for us so we may live in His peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
