Know therefore that the LORD your God, He is God, the faithful God, who keeps covenant and mercy with them who love Him and keep His commandments to a thousand generations.
Deuteronomy 7:9, MEV
As Moses reminded the Israelite people before they entered the Promised Land, so too does he remind us of the words of God given to the people at Mount Sinai decades prior. Our God is a God of promises. He keeps His word and calls us to faithful worship and devotion to Him and Him alone. Sadly, our hearts can easily be lured away with the idea that “the grass is greener” and follow paths that He seeks to prevent us from going down. Even so, our Lord does not forget His chosen and finds a way. God’s nature is one of love and protection, and as we are called to Him, He brings us the redemptive promises given through His Son, Jesus Christ. These promises are given for generations as we raise our children to fear and love our Lord God above all else and teach them to turn to Him during any time of need. This is a powerful promise, and one we can count on because we know the promise giver is also a promise keeper. In this, we may find His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
