3 John 7, LSB
Why support missions and missionaries? This question resonates with some, especially when times are financially difficult. You may hear people talk about the size of the mission in the local community. This is nothing new, and it is why John commends people in his letter for their support of missionaries carrying the Gospel to non-Jewish people. We are called as followers of Christ to bring the Gospel to our local community, the surrounding community, our nation, and to the ends of the earth. We are reminded that it is not an either-or proposition but a both-and. It can be a struggle and that is because we struggle against our worldly nature. It is a constant struggle that we battle within, and our Lord is aware of this struggle. This is the importance of building up and encouraging brothers and sisters in Christ in their callings given to us all in Christ Jesus. We support all with equal fervor not only as a sign of our obedience but to help remind us of the joy that we all share as more and more hear the promises of God and become a part of our Christian family. It is the power of the Holy Spirit within us that assists us in this calling as we support those who go to places, we will not enter so that others may know Christ’s peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
