Aspire to live quietly, and to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands, as we instructed you, so that you may walk properly before outsiders and be dependent on no one.
1 Thessalonians 4:11–12, ESV
Paul reminds us that one aspiration of all Christians is to be self-sufficient and generous. The ultimate goal is generosity. When debt and expenses weigh heavy upon you, it is harder to be generous and your ability to give is severely diminished. This creates a burden on hearts and souls and this is not what our Lord desires for us. One thing Jesus revealed to many is the spiritual aspects of poverty that eats away at the soul of a believer. We see the affects of the love of money in our world and it reveals to us how money does not solve the problems we find in our world. To not be indebted to someone is not meant to held up as a banner of pride either, but a goal to strive for simply to allow hearts to be more dedicated in service to the Lord. As we walk in the wisdom of our Lord and seek to be more in the Word, we find that the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ gives us freedom to be and to live a kinder life without concern or worry and let’s the peace of our Lord surround us so we may live out our lives more to His glory.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
