Psalm 10:8

He waits in ambush by the villages. In hidden places he murders the innocent. His eyes are spying on the helpless.

Psalm 10:8, EHV

We live in a world full of predators, and we see the wickedness of their actions. We see movies and television programs that highlight this reality and celebrate the vigilante who takes them on. Since Cain, this has been part of human nature, and, sadly, hearts are inclined toward murder. Though most people won’t actually take a life, we see many who desire to take a life in their words and treatment of others. Hate is common and, though some will not think it so, is even accepted in our world. We see people espouse love while wishing death on those with whom they disagree. Our Lord desires for us to be aware of the tendencies of a wicked heart and seek to be aware of our hearts while being wary of those whose hearts are set on wickedness. Anger and division are not values our Lord desires in His people, but He calls us to seek to be the peacemakers. We needn’t perpetuate the wicked ways, but stand contrary to them, speak differently in our interactions, and shift from divisive actions to seeking to bring Christ’s light into those dark places, lead out those caught up in the conflict, and lead them into our Lord’s peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
