Each person is given something to do that shows who God is: Everyone gets in on it, everyone benefits. All kinds of things are handed out by the Spirit, and to all kinds of people! The variety is wonderful: wise counsel clear understanding simple trust healing the sick miraculous acts proclamation distinguishing between spirits tongues interpretation of tongues. All these gifts have a common origin, but are handed out one by one by the one Spirit of God. He decides who gets what, and when.

1 Corinthians 12:7–11, MSG

Every follower of Christ is given spiritual gifts to advance the work of the Gospel. Though some may be extraordinary, they are all supernatural. No one is without purpose in the kingdom work our Lord is calling us to as His followers, His people. As we submit ourselves to Him and His will and follow His urgings, we can be amazed at how God can utilize us and the joy that it will bring to our hearts as we are being used to build Christ’s Church. As we discern our gifts, we are encouraged to practice them and as we use them more regularly for the work of the Kingdom what was wonderful will be even more excellent. As our gifts are revealed more and more we will find opportunities to work with our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ and see how together our gifts work to shine Christ’s light out greater and farther as we become a beacon of hope to a fallen creation and are able to shine out the light of Christ’s peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
