“He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; and he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.”

God doesn’t want anyone to be between Himself and His chosen. As children of God, He is to be the center of everything in our lives. That means first before our spouse, our children, our parents, our friends, etc. Unfortunately, it is easy to let people or things get in the way of that, and God may fall out of the number one spot in our tick list of life and sometimes doesn’t even make it in the top ten. Honestly, we are not worthy of Him and His love for us, but He still loves us and calls us to Himself. For those who lose sight of God, God does not lose sight of them. Yet, it does not excuse us to set Him aside. The consequences of many forgetting to put God first are great. Broken families, decaying communities, isolation, loss, etc., are seen across the landscape of society. As followers of Christ, our Lord calls us back to Himself and prays that each of us remember Him, our first love, and restore His position in our lives as He seeks to lead us into His peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
