“As for you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve Him with a whole heart and a willing mind; for the LORD searches all hearts, and understands every intent of the thoughts. If you seek Him, He will let you find Him; but if you forsake Him, He will reject you forever.”
1 Chronicles 28:9, NASB95
In his youth, Solomon sought after God, and his heart was set on God. As the kingdom of Israel was being given to him, Solomon listened to his father and prayed to God for guidance. It wasn’t until he had experienced the world and achieved great success that, as he aged, his focus was taken away from God, and he was led astray. As parents, we are called to give guidance to our children, and the most important gift we can leave with our children is a strong faith foundation. Other things like sports, arts, math, sciences, reading, writing, a good work ethic, and the like are important, but not as much as having a strong and firm faith. Faith is the only thing that is truly of ultimate importance, and it cannot be faked because it is centered in the heart and is the compass that guides. Some confuse faith in self with faith in God, but our self will fail where God does not, and the gift of faith is given by God as hearts are brought to Him and is built by God over a lifetime that shines out His pathways and leads all people into His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
