Whom have I in heaven but You? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides You. My flesh and my heart fails, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
Psalm 73:25–26, MEV
As we keep our eyes focused on God, we find that many of the world's other distractions are less impactful. The issues that arise in the day-to-day things of life are less worrisome. There is a peace that enters in, but the busyness of the world can often cause us to lose sight and draw our attention elsewhere. We turn on the news and hear about the next threat, or watch as disaster and heartache unfold, and our hearts can easily fall into despair. When we keep God in focus, tragedies still occur, and there is always something that threatens to destabilize our peace. The sinful nature of the world doesn’t stop when we believe, but our hearts are changed. If we realize that all of it is temporary, we are able to focus more on our Lord and how we can also make an impact and lead another to know His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
