I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his children begging for bread. He is ever lending generously, and his children become a blessing.
Psalm 37:25–26, ESV
God provides. These are difficult words when faced with uncertainty. Yet, for the faithful who keep to how God calls, there is great hope in them. David writes of this as he recalls all that God has provided. His hope does not come without experience. He had many times of uncertainty, but he always found God’s providence when he was in need. This happens to us, as followers of Christ, also. There is no promise that there won’t be struggles, but God continually promises to provide for the needs of His people. He did this for the Israelites as they crossed the Red Sea. We see our Lord providing food and water for His people in the desert. This was not done because the Israelites were particularly faithful, but out of God’s care for those whom He has chosen. For those of us who believe and follow our Lord Jesus Christ, we too can find comfort in His providence and know His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
