“Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.”
Matthew 9:38, LSB
In most organizations, it is common that a smaller portion of people do the majority of the work. This is no different in the Church. The work of sharing the faith can be difficult. Much of this is because people like to believe what they want to believe. A great example of this can be witnessed in politics. If you like a certain candidate or party, it is easy to believe anything good and reject anything negative and the reverse is also true. In either account, becoming caught up in a narrative and ignoring the truth is easy. We are all guilty of this to some extent, that doesn’t excuse our willful ignorance of the truth but does explain it. Similarly in faith, we like to believe the narrative that gives us joy. Most people like to believe that they are morally good and are people deserving of God’s grace and mercy. The mirror of this can also become an issue as some may reject God because they believe they are unredeemable. For us as Christians, we are called to be the workers in the field having knowledge of our redemption through Jesus Christ and bringing to the world the Law and the Gospel. All need to know that we are Sinners in need of the Savior. Jesus isn’t caught up in narratives of the world but desires to unwind them all and bring all people to the Truth. He desires to send out those who know Him into the fields of the mission field to harvest the seeds that have sprouted to scatter more seeds of faith into the world and bring all His chosen to know His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
