The brothers immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea, and when they arrived they went into the Jewish synagogue. Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.
Acts 17:10–11, ESV
As followers of Christ, we are called to curiosity. God created us with the ability to learn and grow, and He calls us into His Word. Like the Bereans, when we hear a teaching, we are called to examine it against Scripture. If a teaching doesn’t align with the Word of God, it is not to be accepted. New revelations that don’t fit within the framework of the Word of God can easily be dismissed, but it is to be done with great care and discernment. To dismiss something simply because it is not liked is what others did to the Apostles. God’s Word is not dependent on our liking it or its fitting into the framework of what we want to believe, but it is centered on God and the Truth He is revealing to us. This is where many of us struggle. All things are to be placed beneath God and His calling for us as His people, as we seek to be a light in a world of darkness to lead others into His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
