For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are, yet was without sin.
Hebrews 4:15, EHV
God knows our humanity. That is the miracle of Jesus. He knows all our struggles and weaknesses. He knows all our suffering and pain. He knows the difficulties we face in our daily lives. He knows temptation. Life, He partook, but He never tasted sin until He took all our sins upon Himself on the Cross. Our Lord Jesus Christ entered the role of great high priest and savior when He gave Himself for us and sacrificed Himself. Jesus was tempted in the desert, in the garden, and tempted as He was condemned, beaten, and crucified. At any point, He could have taken His power and broken free from it all, but He stayed because that was the will of the Father for our sake. He did this so He could pour out forgiveness on all humanity. The grace He has given is so abundant as to have forgiven us, who are undeserving, and opened the door to Heaven. He not only knows our sins but takes them on Himself and covers us in His perfect holy covering. Our Lord does not wag His head or His finger but stands with open arms ready to receive us in our contrition. Like the father running to embrace his son as he returns from being in a foreign land, so do we find Christ there to receive us. In this, we may find our peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
