For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
Romans 1:16, ESV
The Gospel does not need to be justified, but we are justified through it. The Gospel is where we find hope and salvation because we have failed to keep God’s Law. Openness about our failures is part and parcel to our faith because it reveals to us our need for the salvation Jesus Christ gives to all who believe and trust in Him. We don’t have to make excuses for things about our faith that make others uncomfortable because their discomfort is the conviction of the sin they wish to justify. There is never any justification for sin, but there is redemption. We are redeemed through our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He is the only hope that we have, and He will bring us into eternity. It isn’t about the work we do, but the work that has been done for us on the Cross. Shame is reserved for our sin; in Christ, that shame has been removed as He has given us a pathway to His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
