Jesus answered and said, “This voice has not come for My sake, but for your sake. “Now judgment is upon this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out. “And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to Myself.”

John 12:30–32, LSB

A hard heart is hard to overcome. We like to be caught up in our patterns and live as we feel comfortable. For the people hearing the voice of God and the words of Jesus, it was difficult to comprehend what God was doing. To believe in God and trust in His promises is a hard reality for most until the Holy Spirit moves upon hearts to reveal Him fully. Like Paul, the scales that blind us from the truth must be removed. This doesn’t happen because of our efforts, but God’s choosing. We are called to be a people of prayer and when we look to the Cross, we have our salvation revealed. It does not begin with diligent study, but in inspiration that brings us to study and learn. For some, the mind will remain confused and the Word of God will be difficult to understand. The questions about God’s intentions will linger, but in these moments God calls us to pray that the Word may open to us. At times, God may keep us from fully understanding parts, this is His choosing, not ours, but in those times we are called to trust in His intentions. It isn’t about our feelings, but in His faithfulness, our hope relies and the more we trust in Him, the greater peace will be found.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
