One person judges one day above another, another judges every day alike. Each person must be fully convinced in his own mind. He who regards the day, regards it for the Lord, and he who eats, eats for the Lord, for he gives thanks to God; and he who does not eat, for the Lord he does not eat and gives thanks to God.
Romans 14:5–6, LSB
We all know of people who become very rankled when it comes to worship days. As Jesus fulfilled the Law, observing the Sabbath is of lesser importance; the most important factor is that we, as followers of Christ, come together and worship regularly. Whether it be Saturday, Sunday, or every day is not the important thing. The same is true with fasting. We may fast, or we may not fast, as long as either is done to the glory of God. The observances we keep are not meant to establish legalistic restraints but to provide opportunities to praise God and to show His glory. Keep in mind that this is not saying that taking a Sabbath is unimportant. We are still meant to regularly take time, preferably at least once a week, to come together with other brothers and sisters to worship with song, Bible reading, and prayer. All this is to renew our bodies and our souls so we may better know His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
