One cried to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of Hosts; the whole earth is full of His glory.”
Isaiah 6:3, MEV
As Isaiah was given this vision of God on His throne and spectacle that unfolded before his eyes, I can only imagine the thoughts running through his head. One thing that is clear is that Isaiah understood God's sinless nature in juxtaposition to his own sinfulness. The fear that entered into Isaiah was an understanding of his lack of standing before such a holy being. This is one thing that many may not fully understand, as they accuse God of their suffering. We cannot fully live into the holiness that is God and, as His followers, will fail and fall short in giving the message of hope that our Lord wishes to convey. This does not diminish God, nor does it make the faith we hold any less true. It only highlights our fallen nature as humans. The power of the Word and how it can transform is evident. God uses us in spite of our shortcomings, not because He must, but because He chooses to use us to show His mercy and care to a broken and fallen creation. He desires for us to know His love and reflect His grace, so we may not only know but also lead others into His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
