And singers, just like the dancers, will all say, “All my springs are in you.”
Psalm 87:7, LSB
God has always sought ways to restore His chosen. This psalm is full of hope and promise as it paints a picture of the city of God. All nations look to those born out of her with great honor and all the nations who were enemies of Israel are painted as being envious of her. Christ’s coming to restore us wasn’t to make us fit in quietly, but to help us stand out and be noticed. This wasn’t to be prideful in self but centering our pride and boasting in God. Paul writes of this when he says, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord!” (2 Corinthians 10:17) We have nothing to be prideful in ourselves, but we can be prideful in God and what He has done for us through Jesus Christ. The people of God have continually chased after foreign gods and sought to be like every other nation and people group. God calls us back to Himself and seeks to bring us into His fold. This is not out of neediness, but out of love. Like a father seeing his child running down into a cliff, our Lord cries out to us and calls us away from danger. Yet, we, like children, often pull away and resist His hand and ignore His voice. He seeks for us to see His love more fully and understand His grace as we sing to His glory and place all our hope in Him. In this, we may know His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
