John 13:14

“If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.”

John 13:14, LSB

As Christians, we are not meant to place ourselves above another but be open and willing to serve one another. As Jesus washed His disciples’ feet, we are also called to wash over the sin and cover the sin and shame with the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ with everyone we meet. When we see fellow believer suffering, we are not to add to their suffering but offer comfort to build them up. The world is unforgiving, and nature can be cruel. If we stand against the norms or the standards of society, we will find a lot of pain and suffering. The great difference is that we have a God who is unchanging whereas the trends and standards of society are everchanging so what was true and accepted in the past may be seen as being false and abominable today. We see this repeated throughout history, but the promises of our Lord have stood firm with the two greatest commandments that stand firm today, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, and soul and love your neighbor as yourself.” We are given a great method to understand all that God has given us through the Word and trusting in Him. Our way of treating others is not meant to be defined by who they are but on who He is and what He has done for us. As brothers and sisters in Christ, we are meant to treat one another with great care and in our love for one another reflect to the world the love of Jesus Christ. In this, we will find His peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
