Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.
1 John 3:8, ESV
Contrition. This is a word that many of us may hear, but not understand fully what it means. The devil has no spirit of contrition; what that means is that when he sins, he has no regret or remorse for the sins he commits. He doesn’t sin because he is angry. He’s not angry with God, nor is he angry with humanity. There is no desire for him to repent. As followers of Christ, we will sin, but the moment we realize our sin and feel it in our gut or crawling on our skin, we want it removed and are compelled to repent, asking for our Lord’s forgiveness. Sin leaves a bad taste in the sinner's mouth and makes us sick to our souls. Those who are caught up in the devil’s lies and do not have the Holy Spirit within them will feel nothing like this and may even feel justified in their sin. This we pray against and seek to bring light into the hearts of all and seek to release those bound in Satan’s lies to come and know the salvation that comes from Christ and Christ alone, so they may enter into His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
