The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is the slave of the lender.

Proverbs 22:7, ESV

Debt is a burden far too many know in the world, and it makes life harder as it entangles one's life. When one is indebted to anyone, there is an obligation to pay off that debt, and it can cause one to easily lose focus and lead a person down paths away from God. There is no inherent evil in debt, and one should not be too prideful about avoiding debt either. Money is only a means and can be utilized to serve the purposes of God or the purposes of this world. It can be used to help others in need, or it can become a tool to bring hardship and division. We are reminded to be careful not to allow anything but God to have full lordship in our lives. Like all sin, we are reminded of the caution we are to take as we remember who is truly in charge. Letting God be in charge of all decisions will lead us in paths that glorify Him, and this is what our Lord desires of all of us as His people. Not to become full of fear and doubt, but know the certainty and peace of our Lord in all aspects of our lives.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
