He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
2 Corinthians 5:21, LSB
Could you imagine what it had to have been like for Jesus on the Cross when He took upon Himself all sin of all humanity for all time? The brutal separation from God the Father and God the Son for a moment in time would impact all of history. He felt the hopelessness of the human condition. All of this was done for one reason, so you and I could become righteous and gain entrance into the eternal kingdom. Anyone with sin upon them cannot enter God’s presence. We see this in the Old Testament when sacrifices are made to consecrate those who sit at the feet of God for a short time and the preparations required for those to serve before the Tabernacle and in the Temple. God’s requirements are specific and when they are not followed there are consequences that need fulfillment. This was completed in Christ our Lord. In a moment, the final sacrifice was made. The need for blood was ended and a new age of the Gospel was born. As our Lord cried out from the Cross, our path was made clear. In Him, we are made clean and through His stripes, we are healed. Our message of hope was made clear, and our salvation was secured. Let our Lord’s love be proclaimed and may all know His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
