“The one who listens to you listens to Me, and the one who rejects you rejects Me. And he who rejects Me rejects the One who sent Me.”
Luke 10:16, LSB
I hate rejection. This is a common feeling with most people. Rejection feels personal, and it hurts. This is common and has been throughout history. Jesus was addressing this to His followers, and He addresses it with us. Rejection will happen. People don’t always agree, and views are not always accepted. When talking about faith, rejection happens regularly. We can’t make anyone believe, but our calling is to tell others about our Lord. Jesus’ words remind us that the rejection of the faith we hold is not a rejection of us, who believe, but of Him who is in the center of our belief. We pray that all will believe, but we know that not all will. So, we are called to share. Our commission is to go and tell, not force belief. We know that those who are called by our Lord will hear. Those who hear will believe. Those who believe will follow. We don’t call them to follow us, but to follow the One whom we are following as we are being led into His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
