At the end of ten days it was seen that their appearance was better and that they were fatter than all the youths who had been eating the king’s choice food.
Daniel 1:15, LSB
God placed a conviction on the hearts of Daniel and the other Hebrews who were placed in the royal Babylonian court to set an example. It may have been a small move by making a stand against eating the rich foods of the royal household, but God was going to show something great through a minor adjustment. God calls us to be willing to set aside things we may think are trivial and let Him show His glory. It may be the types of food we eat, like Daniel, but it may be something else in our lives that is not honoring to God, so we may fit in with others. We are reminded to stay steadfast in our witness to our Lord and set aside those things He convicts us to change. It may be through these actions that great changes may occur. Our Lord desires for us to look and act differently from the world. We are not to be like everyone else, caught up in the things that our world promotes, which is dishonoring to God, and seek His peace so others may know His peace through us.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
