In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:1, ESV
God spoke everything into existence and John reminds us of the power of the Word. Here it is proclaimed that Jesus is the Word. He is all of what God had been preparing the people from the beginning when in Genesis 3:15 God declared, “I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.” The destruction of sin and the devil foretold and in Jesus, it all was fulfilled. Jesus is the fulfillment of the Torah and all that the Prophets spoke about. When the Word claims and fills us, we know our Lord's salvation promises, and our Lord's full love for His people is revealed. There has never been a period that the Son of God was not with the Father and the Holy Spirit was ever present with them both. How often do we ponder the gravity of this in our lives? The reality of Jesus and what He means for all creation is laid out for us in the pages of Scripture and He came to open it all to us as His chosen people. His promises do not dissipate with our unfaithfulness. He doesn’t leave us without options as we walk into the mire of the world, but His hand is ever near us and His words are close at hand as He calls us to Himself. Jesus is the Word and He has the final word in all of Creation and desires for all of Creation to know Him and live in His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
