“This is eternal life: that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent.”

Eternal life is not centered in an idea, but in the personhood of Jesus Christ and our belief in Him. It isn’t about being a good person or following certain rules, but in faithfully worshipping the one, true God and confessing faith in the personhood of God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. For those who deny the lordship of Jesus Christ, deny God. They do so by denying the incarnation and the sacrifice made for us in the Son, who died for us on the Cross upon which He took all of our sins. It is because of His action that we are saved. This is the only path to eternal life. No amount of penance can earn us this gift. This is what we proclaim and what is found in the Word as we kneel before our Lord and King, Jesus Christ, and enter into His glorious kingdom. Our entrance has been purchased through His blood, which has washed over us all. It is through Him and Him alone that we can ever enter into eternal peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
