Ephesians 5:18

Do not be drunk with wine, for that is reckless living. But be filled with the Spirit.

Ephesians 5:18, MEV

It is easy to distract our minds with alcohol or other things that may cause us to let go of the concerns of life. Our Lord calls us to be a light to His glory, and we are easily dimmed by things like this. Some make this merely about the consumption of alcohol, but it is not the consumption of wine or other things that concern our Lord. It is the consumption of worldliness that we are called to avoid and focus on our Lord. The glory of God shines best, and we can be of greatest help when we are focused on living to our Lord’s glory. Our hearts and minds can become tired and less focused, but our Lord desires for us to keep Him ever in the forefront and seek to serve Him always. Carefully stepping to avoid falling into the pitfalls that lead us away from the hope of our Lord Jesus Christ, and ever seeking to know His peace. We don’t have to escape to anything but our Lord, and He will provide us peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
