Jude 20

But you, dear friends, continue to build yourselves up in your most holy faith as you keep praying in the Holy Spirit.

Jude 20, EHV

We can easily become overwhelmed by the darkness in our world. In every generation, there have been those who have said that we are in the darkest times and that evil is winning and gaining greater strength. Jude reminds us to keep the faith through prayer. When surrounded by people that scoff and deny the Christian faith things can become difficult. We mustn’t let our circumstances cause us to waver but press harder into the faith. To cry out, “The end is near!” is quite tempting and there is always some truth in this, yet we don’t know when the end of it all will be, but our end or the end of another may be near. We need to pray and place our trust in God. Our prayers and the care we show for another may bring them out of the grasp of the deceiver and into the eternal kingdom. This is our call. When we show love to those who treat us with contempt our witness is strengthened, and others may be turned into the arms of faith. A forgiving word, a helpful gesture, or an act of kindness may be that thing that causes another to repent. In a world filled with anger, hatred, and intolerance the cure isn’t more of the same, but prayer, love, and compassion are the tools our Lord utilized, and the Apostles gave when faced with those who wished to take their lives. In dark times, we are reminded to pray and find peace in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
