But now the LORD, who formed me from the womb to be his servant, to turn Jacob back to him, so that Israel might be gathered to him, so that I will be honored in the eyes of the LORD, because my God has been my strength—
Isaiah 49:5, EHV
It is humbling to realize the true nature of choice concerning God. We would like to reverse this idea, but we do not choose God; He has chosen us. Without God’s choosing, we are unable to be His followers. From the womb, our God knows us. Some hearts will harden and remain hardened in God, so the humbling question is, “Why would God choose me?” We may be able to find strength in our sharing of the Gospel. The Gospel will confront the sin in all, so we must not be afraid that some who hear it will reject it. The reason we carry the Gospel is that those whom God is calling and has chosen may hear the promises and respond. Our hearts are unaware of those who are chosen by God and a person we may feel is hopeless may be the one whom God has prepared to hear His hope and promise. Isaiah was not sure of how people hearing God’s Word given to him would respond, but he knew whose words he was delivering. When God calls us to share and presents us with ways to do so, it is good for us to realize the need for our faithfulness knowing that He is faithful. Our Lord uses His chosen to be the bearers of His message as He seeks to find His lost sheep. We are the bell sheep that are called to lead others of His flock to His safety. Let us boldly listen to His voice and live our lives in His glorious light knowing His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
