Nathanael said to Him, “From where do You know me?” Jesus answered and said to him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.”

Isn’t it amazing that God knows us? It isn’t a matter of our doing that God knows us, but in the fact that we are all created in His image and He foreknows us all. He has known us since our conception. It is Him who has miraculously given us that spark in which our lives began. As we read in the Creation account how God breathed the breath of life into Adam, so began our existence with that first breath. We were designed in our Lord’s perfection, sadly sin entered into our lives. In spite of this, God still calls us. He foresees and foreknows all the possibilities in our lives and, like Nathanael under the fig tree, He awaits our listening to His call in our lives. For Nathanael, the calling came from His brother. For us, this calling comes to the believer that leads us to, “Come and see!” In this invitation, we are lead to the God who knows us and desires for us to know the fullness of life that He has to offer us in Him. The God who knows us gives us a sense of value, not only of ourselves but of all people.  This is where we can find our peace in Him because He has first known us.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
