Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
Colossians 3:16, ESV
How often do we sing our praises to God? As we place the Word of God more deeply in our hearts, the more the praises will flow out. Paul was reminding the early Church of the importance of gathering together to hear the word of God and be taught, but he was also reminding them of the importance of singing songs of worship and praise with one another. It is amazing how a song can impact our thinking and our hearts. Our moods can be shifted in a moment when a song fills our ears and captures our hearts. This is true whether the song is one praising God or not. Music will often bring a message deeper within us and will guide us in our thinking. God is calling us to fill our minds and hearts with things that draw us closer to Him and can help us to reflect, show, and live in His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
