Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity! It is like the precious oil on the head, running down on the beard, on the beard of Aaron, running down on the collar of his robes! It is like the dew of Hermon, which falls on the mountains of Zion! For there the LORD has commanded the blessing, life forevermore.
Psalm 133:1–3, ESV
God’s promise is life, not death. We live in a world full of death. Disease, war, and killing are commonplace. This is not what God desires, nor has He ever desired. Death entered with sin. What our Lord desires to bless us with is life. Hell, Hades, Sheol, etc., whatever name given to it is where death reigns, but in Christ, who is pointed to in the Psalms and throughout the Old Testament, is the promise of life. When we enter into Him and are followers of His promises, we no longer fear death, for when we leave this mortal coil, we enter into life eternal with Him ever present by our side. In His blessings, we are anointed. In His promises, we are covered. In His waters, we are adopted. Into His kingdom, we are called. Our Lord’s blessings are abundant, and He desires for us to confidently walk in the hope He brings. We are not to walk in fear of the violence we see, but in the hope of the promises and know His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
