Then he believed in the LORD; and He reckoned it to him as righteousness.
Genesis 15:6, NASB95
At seventy-five years old Abraham heard God’s calling on His life and listened. He didn’t listen perfectly. He made mistakes along the way, but His belief in God who was leading him remained. It took a quarter of a century for the promise of God to Abraham to be realized in who would become the heir of the promise Isaac. If we look at the early faith fathers, we don’t find men who are paramours of a faithful life, but it was from Abraham and his wife Sarah a promise would be fulfilled. Not in their youth, but in the later years of their lives when most considered the hope for their family lines future to be done. God does this throughout history. He utilizes those that the world as written off to accomplish His glory. He uses the broken and discarded and creates something beautiful and great. He uses folks like you and me to do shine out His light to a world trapped in darkness and seeks to lead us all into His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
