John 10:10

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”

John 10:10, ESV

It is easy to recognize the things of God and the things of the world. It comes to discerning what is truly life-giving versus that which leads to destruction. It is often said that God doesn’t want us to do fun things, but if we truly look at the outcomes of those that many call “fun,” perspective would most certainly change. Anyone who has dealt with the hardship of a loved one who struggles with addiction will understand this reality. People don’t usually begin something that leads to addiction because they want the hardships that often come with it. Yet, we see how often people become trapped in something that they utilize initially as an escape. Life is what our Lord desires for us to know, and that can come with some sacrifice. This is most certainly true. Our Lord wants us not to focus on the sacrifice, but on the reward, which is abundant life here and, most importantly, in eternity. This is the path that our Lord creates that leads us into His peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
