But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
Galatians 5:22–23, ESV
The more we turn our lives over to God, the greater the fruit of our Lord grows within us. We reflect greater love. Joy emanates more exuberantly. Our patience is increased, and we are kinder. The goodness we do and how we live is more evident, and we are more faithful not only to God but also in our other relationships. We are also gentler and have a higher level of self-control. People are no longer a means, and relationships are less transactional. In all of this, the oppression of legal obligations lessens because the reason for the Law is less necessary. In the Spirit of God, we won’t want to do things to harm another, and anger will be lessened because the primary causes of anger will not be present. After all, contentment will be in our hearts. As we walk with God, the thorns of the flesh will have less power in our lives as we walk more in our Lord’s peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
