For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love.
2 Peter 1:5–7, ESV
Our world has forgotten virtue. A value God gives that carries us in life to better know the love of our Lord. It isn’t an act or way that fits the world and makes everyone feel good, but it is that which sets us apart. It is the driving force in our hearts that drives us to want to know God more and leads us to be controlled in our lives and staid in our spirits. The power of this leads us to truly love our brothers and sisters in Christ as our Lord desires. Virtue cannot be faked, and it is not a signal sent out to seek approval from others, but a way of living that, in and of itself, shines out the glory of God. In a plastic world, a truly virtuous person is a refreshment to the soul and a relief to the spirit. It is in this way our Lord calls us to live as we walk in our faith with Him and are transformed by His mercy and grace. It is not based on our actions, but our submission to His guidance and resting in His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
