Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.

Philippians 2:3, ESV

Words like diversity, equity, and inclusion are buzzwords in today's society. At first glance, there is nothing wrong with them as they are then blended in the concept of building community. Upon closer examination, we find that these words are based on the self, however. The central purpose is to build up one group over and above another, and not necessarily with unity of purpose. In Christ, we are called to look out for the neighbor and treat others with great respect, and give every person some level of dignity. Our gains should never be sought at the expense of another, and our desires, when directed to God’s purposes, are shaped so that they not only will bring benefits to us but will bless all of those around us. Our success is not built upon our pride, but our love for neighbor centered in our love for our Lord. This is the calling of our faith, and its strength lies in our focus on the one who brings us salvation and peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
