For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality.
1 Thessalonians 4:3, LSB
God desires for us to live lives that honor Him. There is no greater way that we may misuse and abuse the gift God has given us in our bodies than through abusing the gift of sex. God created us male and female as a gift in which we can in a very real way share ourselves in the union of marriage out of which we may be blessed with children. Not that children are the only benefit but a benefit and a blessing. In this union, husband and wife become intertwined and are one body. Because of the Fall, we can only experience a shadow of what it was meant to be; this is why it has been so distorted into what we see today. The marriage bed is not as pure as God desired it to be. Yet, as followers of Christ, we may strive to live as pure and chaste lives as possible by abstaining from the many perversions in our world. Our Lord seeks that we keep our hearts and minds pure in our living. He desires a renewal of our minds as we seek His guidance in the Word and through our prayers. In Christ, we have been set apart. Let our hearts and minds be guided away from the many temptations that are presented before us. Whether it be in our marriage bed or our singleness let us honor our Lord in all aspects of our lives and abstain from that which will lead us into darkness. In this, we may know Christ’s peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
