The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make His face to shine upon you, and be gracious unto you; the LORD lift His countenance upon you, and give you peace.
Numbers 6:24–26, MEV
These words of God given to Moses to say to Aaron and his sons is a reminder of the thoughtfulness of God. Why should God be concerned with us? This question is asked multiple times throughout Scripture and the answer is simple, “Because He chooses us as His and cares for us.” It is also given to us as a reminder that we should seek this of God and pray for this blessing regularly in our lives. We shouldn’t flee from God’s gaze like Adam and Eve after partaking of the fruit, but joyfully seek Him out and live our lives in ways we know would be pleasing to Him. It is a difficult task because it is against our nature and contrary to the ways of the world. However, it does not help us to make our lives a legalistic method either. We have seen this fail throughout history and does not draw our hearts any nearer to God, but causes us to seek loopholes in the rules to do the things we want. Instead, seek to live a life seeking to keep focused on Him and when you stumble cry out to Him knowing He is near at hand and desires to bring you into His peace.
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
