“Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel.”
Isaiah 7:14, LSB
More than four hundred years prior to this event occurring the promise of the Messiah was given to the people of Israel and this blessing came to redeem us all. Today we celebrate the birth of our Savior and the long foretold promise of God that began in the Garden as God pronounced judgment for eating the forbidden fruit. The words of comfort and grace for all humanity that many would not fully understand until the cross and the first Easter morn when the tomb where Jesus laid was found empty. People today still struggle to come to terms with this event and seek to find ways to not hear or believe these words. The Christ-Child has come and will return to save us in the end. As we remember this baby born over two thousand years ago, let us remember why He came and remember that just as we today when we look upon the face of a baby see all the innocence, hope, and potential before us, so it is with us for our Father in Heaven as He seeks to return us to that state and bring us into His glory. Let us never forget the little baby held by Mary and Joseph full of so much hope and promise. Seek to understand the purpose of this season and the reason for our Lord’s coming that His life, death, and resurrection were for us so that we too may come into the Father’s glory and know His peace. Merry Christmas and Christ’s peace be with you all on this day, “To us a child is given, to us a Savior is born.”
Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
