2 Chronicles 32:7

“Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be dismayed because of the king of Assyria nor because of all the multitude that is with him; for the one with us is greater than the one with him.”

2 Chronicles 32:7, LSB

When God is clearly in our sights and we follow His calling and are obedient in our walk, we have nothing to fear about the world. Hezekiah had restored worship to God in Jerusalem and had removed all the idols and idol-worshiping sights from Judah and surrounding areas. He was faithful to God and stood up against the current oppressor of Judea and Jerusalem, Assyria. He trusted in God’s protection and was confident that the angel armies would bring Him victory. He was not afraid of the other gods because He worshiped the one, true God. It is amazing how much can be done when we remove the idols from our lives what God is able to accomplish. Hezekiah’s father had filled Jerusalem and all of Judea with idols, but Hezekiah saw the failure and was faithful to listen to God. He had no fear and knew his sacrifice would never surpass God’s grace because one can be sure that his actions did not, please everyone. Our calling is to please only one, and serve Him alone because as we walk with the One we find that there is no other. Assyria tried to rattle the hearts of the people of Jerusalem, but when Hezekiah looked to God, he was given the words and the power to embolden the people. As we go out in the world, we too can find the words that will embolden people to stand up for the Word and speak out for our God so that all may come to know His peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
