Ecclesiastes 7:20

Surely there is not a righteous man on earth who does good and never sins.

Ecclesiastes 7:20, ESV

There is not a person on earth who does not sin. Jesus Christ alone was able to keep all the commandments of God. This isn’t meant to make us despair, but to keep our eyes more focused on our Lord and Savior, knowing He died and has forgiven all of our sins. Our belief is also a gift He gives that keeps us keenly aware of His forgiveness and puts in our hearts the realization of our sin, with the hope that we seek to be faithful to Him and His paths. Just because we are aware of our sin and of Christ's forgiveness does not give us an excuse to sin. Christ calls our hearts to be more attuned to Him and His guidance as He seeks to lead us away from the things that will do us harm and the sin that will bind us. It isn’t about guilt and shame, but our Lord desires for us to know Him and His forgiveness as He leads us in His peace.

Let us pray. I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger, and I ask you to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that in all I do today, I may please you. For into your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all that is mine. Let your holy angel watch over me, that the wicked foe have no power over me. Amen.
